About Kidney Dialysis
Dialysis is a treatment that removes and filters blood removing the impurities that the kidneys would normally undertake. In order to perform this efficiently and to save a build up of impurities in the body the average time spent per session is between 3 – 4 hours and each session is required to be undertaken three days per week. The transfer of blood is via a fistula (a permanent attachment of a needle into a vein) inserted in the arm or the chest.
Travelling time by private hire taxi has to be built in to each session currently adding an average of another 3-4 hours for Oban based patients.
